		<description>To my knowledge it is usually done over plain stockinette knitting. I have not been able to find any examples of the duplicate stitch being used in any other way. I suspect the tightness of the stockinette keeps it in place, and because lace or items with yarn overs would be too loose to hold the new yarn in place.
