ME! Yep, I apparently am subconsciously trying to forget my twins’ birthday party. They turn 5 in less than two weeks, and we’ll be away from home on the day of their birth. I had decided a while back that their party would be the Sunday before we left, which would be THIS Sunday… as in three days from now. The part that really cements my nomination for this award is that I haven’t done A THING to prepare and it’s Thursday.
We’ve traditionally done family parties without friends until our child reaches school age. When I say traditionally, I mean we broke the mold this past March when our oldest was actually in Kindergarten, and I’m stating this is our family ‘tradition’ to dodge any further responsibility or guilt over my lack of planning. *wink* Thankfully we have a well established habit with our cousins that includes driving through a kid-friendly work-aurant to grab a boxed lunch with plastic propaganda included, having lunch at the family home (our former address, long story for another day), and an afternoon snack of frosted confection with fire, song, and gifts.
“Well, that’s not so bad” I hear you saying… but wait. I’ve procrastinated so long that I’ve put myself into a slight bind. Yesterday, several members of our household presented symptoms of what some might call a ’summer cold’. Sneezing, coughing, runny noses… and guess which half of our household is affected. Yep, me and the twins. We’re not so bad off, but it’s that yucky looking and sounding thing where a mom just doesn’t want to go out in public to subject herself to disapproving glances. I know you know exactly what I’m talking about. Oh yeah, and my husband (the techie) has the regularly scheduled Saturday maintenance day this weekend as well! *UGH*
Looks like I’ll be parading the troops out in a day or two to pick up that required pinata they keep prattling on about.
